Hey guys, so today I will be introducing a new series to my blog! Today, I will be sharing a Product Smackdown: Blush Brushes Edition.
I don't know how you guys feel about blushes, but I love them. The picture above is just showcases a fraction of the blushes I own. However, my application of blushes isn't always the best. As such, I felt like sharing which blush brushes I own gives me the best blush application. In this post, I will be discussing EcoTools, Elf, It Cosmetics, and Real Techniques blush brushes and letting you know what I think is the best out of the ones I have tried (PSA: I returned my Mac 109 brush that I used to use because the bristles were WAY too harsh). Keep reading on to find out what brushes I like and what I don't like so much.
EcoTools Tapered Blush Brush - $6.99
This is a favorite of a lot of people, but I find that I don't reach for this one at all. Personally, I think this brush is a bit too dense to apply blush and is best suited for powder or bronzer application. I don't think this brush blends out blush at all and I find application of blush using this brush can be uneven. This brush is a miss for me as a blush brush but I do like it for powder and bronzer application.
Elf Studio Blush Brush - $3
This synthetic brush is better suited for highlight or setting your undereye concealer. While I have in the past used it for blush, this brush is a tad too small for my face and made it difficult to get an even application across my cheek as a result. I prefer using this brush for light-medium pigmented blushes because this brush doesn't do the best job in blending when I accidentally over blend. As a result, this brush is a miss as a blush brush, but a hit as a highlighting or undereye setting powder brush.
It Cosmetics Airbrush Soft Focus Blush Brush #113 - $24
Avaliable only exclusively at Ulta, this synthetic brush is perfect for blush application. It picks up sheer blushes very well and distributes the perfect amount of blush across my cheek. I never have an issue with streaky blush application using this brush at all. This brush is definitely a hit! Downside is that this brush is the most expensive out of the one I feature here, but I do have an alternative in this post that is a bit more affordable.
Real Techniques Blush Brush - $9
This synthetic blush is better suited for powder or bronzer application. Because of the tulip shape, this brush doesn't pick up an even amount of product, making it easy to have an uneven application. However, if you have a really pigmented blush, this brush does come in handy because you can build your blush onto your face without making yourself look like a clown. This brush is kind of sitting in neutral territory, it works well for some blushes, it doesn't work for others.
Honorable Mention: Real Techniques Multitasker Brush
This is a wonderful synthetic brush that I have in my collection, but unfortunately it only comes in a set. The set itself retails for $18 and comes with a standard foundation brush and a domed shadow brush. The reason why this is an honorable mention is because it only comes in a set... but I highly recommend this brush. As the name implies, this is a fantastic multitasker brush. It works beautifully with applying blush, but also does a good job applying liquid foundation, powder, and bronzer. If you are in the market for an overall good brush, I recommend you picking this up (plus, the Travel Set which it comes along also has a very good foundation brush and domed shadow brush). Besides the It Cosmetics Blush Brush, this is my favorite to use for blush. This brush is a hit in my books!
Besides these blush brushes I have mentioned here, I plan on eventually picking up the Real Techniques Duo Fiber Collection (because I want to use the Powder Brush for extremely pigmented blushes) and the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush (because the angle on that brush looks wonderful for blush!).
